My husband and i live in a rented house in philadelphia, pa with our almost 2 year old daughter. (We don’t have a car since they are unneeded in this city.) We have a goal about moving to the west coast somewhere in the Portland, OR area but willing to branch out to WA or northern CA… something closer to the coast than to the mainland though. He is a prep chef and I am a restaurant server but beginning the switch to being a WAHM selling my line of baby gear. We ultimately want to find a job for him and buy our first home (4bd w/ 2 baths and a real backyard) but don’t really have any connections out that way and are in the process of saving money, but really have no clue where to start. I’ve looked at houses, looked at jobs, but would love a real guide step-to-step on how to accomplish our magnificent dream. Help please!!!!!

there are texts here about How to Relocate:
i know only a few marginally helpful things. one, next to portland is eugene and do not move to eugene unless u love hippies. two, oregon has different property tax from Cali i think but no sales tax. three, house deals come and go and if u are poised then u can find nice one but it may take a year and realestate drops 1/2 price or more if u are 30 miles or more out of town. Thing about location is also check ur elevation/historical weather data because no surprises is good like do u want snow? some places on the coast it snows rather regularly (a nice site for that is wunderground.com but they only know weather at your nearest station).
cheapest nicest land in california is trinity pines but it is not coast. a few nice old cheap homes around there at hayfork. i only mention trinity pines because it IS cheap and nice but it has no real other advantage.
what i might do. i Might get an RV to live in so i could do the campground or trailer park thing if someone was going to be working at home to watch it. so i would be saving major money off rentals while i waited to find that dream house/price and while i had my job.
about cars. check portland of course but i guarantee u there is no bus services on coast towns of northern california, all are too small. To get a car here u want to go to ‘orland auto auction’ and play good strategy to buy nice one after crowd leaves. my friend recently got a Really nice Large RV for 750.oo
orland is inland on I-5 so not convenient to coast but is a place the bus would stop if u do not drive out. also i mention in case there are auctions where u are. orland lists their stuff online and sells once a month.
about selling baby things, idk if u are wholesale but if not, seriously delve into what makes a search engine tick. it is more than key words to get a good listing. also do not neglect eBay.
fun trivia since u are in the garden section, Oregon is home to the world’s largest known living organism, an underground Honey Mushroom about 200 square miles in size. edible. also Oregon is home to Giant White earthworm whose spit smells of lily and he can spit it 4 feet. they say he is extinct but i saw one just over the border here in cali.
last, there are 2-way discussion forums around and some are quite local. here is a results page for ones in portland:
You are asking a lot. I suggest to get the advise from a career counselor.
